- What is a Database?
Databases consist of resources that are collected in one place and are fully searchable. FLHS subscribes to a large number of high-quality databases that put together magazine, journal, newspaper, and reference book articles, along with audio and video files and images. Unlike much of what you find on the Internet, you can trust that our databases provide only reliable information. Also, you will need to know how to use databases for college. - What is the difference Between a Bibliography and a Works Cited List?
A Bibliography is any list of resources. A Works Cited List is a specific kind of bibliography, which includes only the resources actually used for a research project. In In-Text Citation must be inserted within the body of the research project wherever information is used, either as a direct quote or as paraphrased notes. - What is the difference between a Magazine and a Journal?
Magazines are usually intended for the general public, so they are written in language that is easier to understand. The articles also tend to be somewhat shorter. Journals are intended for professionals in a specific field, and publish research articles written by scholars in that field. Most journals are also "peer-reviewed," which means that a panel of scholars in the field reads the articles to decide if they meet the requirements for publication. The language used in journal articles is often technical, and the articles are usually much longer than magazine articles.
